In the wake of China Mobile's announcement to launch its first PTN (Packet Transport Network) equipment tender in October, 2009, China Mobile has revealed the tender results and selected five out of seven bidders, the Sina Tech News reported on December 14. Five tender winners include ZTE, Huawei, Fiberhome, ASB (Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell), and Ericsson. Of the total tender, Chinese telecom manufacturers have accounted for approximately 90%, approximately 35% of which was awarded to ZTE, another 35% to Huawei, 15% to Fiberhome, and 5% to Guangzhou New Postcom Equipment. In addition, ASB and Ericsson have won approximately 10% and 5% of the total PTN tender, respectively, according to the same source. Nokia Siemens Networks and Guangzhou New Postcom Equipment that had qualified to participate in the bidding process, however, failed to bag the tender floated by China Mobile.

 

The PTN equipment purchased by China Mobile, to serve mainly enterprise users subscribing to its 2G and 3G data service, will feature packet transmission, protection, clock synchronization, and time synchronization, with an aim to boost its broadband business revenue, according to the SinoCast Daily Business Beat News. Meanwhile, China Mobile's subsidiaries on the provincial level have begun upgrading its data transmission technology from MSTP (Multi-Service Transfer Platform) to PTN, which is slated for completion by 2011.
